Most of the themes we use have really suffered from the recent Twitter API change. Our fix was to deploy the Twitter Widget Pro plugin to our sites to replace that functionality. It takes a little more work for the setup and configuration of everything, but in the end it seems to be a pretty solid plugin and solution. I wish WordPress theme developers would work more closely with plugin authors. I would prefer my themes work with Yoast SEO, and a few of the other major plugins, than use the functionality from the themes.
The other, and way easier option, is to not a use a plugin, and just use a widget from the twitter account and paste it as text in the widget area or wherever you wish.
